Elliston at War - World War One

 

 

Lance Cpl. Chesley James Gough: Reg # 893

 

L/Cpl Chesley James Gough (1894-1916) was at Beaumont-Hamel on July 1st, 1916 but was lucky to have been either part of the 10% held in reserve or attached to other duty.

 

Chesley James Gough enlisted in the Newfoundland Regiment on Jan. 9, 1915 and was killed in action on Oct. 12, 1916 at Gueudecourt, France. He is buried at the Beaumont-Hamel Memorial. Address listed as Elliston and he was the son of James and Elizabeth Sarah (nee Baker) Gough.
