Pte. Oliver Goodland: Reg # 1834

 

Oliver Goodland (1895-1976) enlisted in the Newfoundland Regiment on Sept. 13, 1915. He was wounded and discharged on Nov. 27, 1918 medically unfit.

 

Address listed as Elliston and he was the son of John Goodland (1859-1940) and Rhoda Sanger (1863-1928).

 

London Gazette, January 6th, 1917 - Action date, October 12th, 1916 - Gueudecourt For bravery in the field. On October 12th near Gueudecourt in an attack on German trenches he showed great coolness and gallantry as a runner, three times carrying back messages through a very heavy barrage to Battalion Headquarters. He was severely wounded.
