Pte. Newman Gough: Reg # 1918
Newman Gough (1896-1986) enlisted in the Newfoundland Regiment on Oct. 15, 1915. Pte. Gough went over the top on July 1st, 1916 at Beaumont-Hamel and surrived! He was demobilized on April 24, 1919.
Address listed as Elliston and he was the son of James and Elizabeth Sarah (nee Baker) Gough.
London Gazette, May 14th, 1919 - Action date, September 29th, 1918 - Kieberg Ridge On the morning of September 29th, 1918, when his platoon was held up by an enemy machine gun firing from a covered position, he crawled 100 yards in front, killed the machine gun crew, thus enabling the platoon to advance.
